It is fitting that the book of John parallels Genesis in the first few verses as the introduction. Genesis introduced many concepts for the first time while the book of John deal with transitional concepts that are new to that time. Revealing the pre-eminence of Christ is the superior theme. Jesus comes to show Himself the anointed one of all the world. Jesus first comes to Israel, but the new purpose is to all the world.
Much will turn over from the old covenants and testaments by means of the finish work of Jesus on the cross and His rising. The world is changed forever.
John the Baptist predicts the most significant theme. That is, that Jesus is the Lamb of God. John is the chosen prophet to be that transition from the old path to the new way of eternal life.
Jesus comes in humility as He is Baptized by John; divinity in the hands of men. We are told early that the world is much too dark to welcome the Messiah as Lord, King and Saviour.
