JESUS, OUR PASSOVER LAMB – JOHN 18
Jesus is crucified at the 3rd hour (9am) and dies the 9th hour (3pm).
“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished;”.
Jesus is the Lamb of God in His first incarnation. He is the perfect lamb set aside to be sacrificed for the sins of the world. Jesus is crucified at the exact same time as all Israel is sacrificing their Lambs for their Passover meal. Golgotha (Outside Jerusalem city walls). PREPERATION DAY, Thursday, 14th of Nissan.
John 19:30; Matt 27:45-56; Mark 15:33-41; Luke 23:44-49
Why did Jesus need to die? Why was the payment such a high price? The story of the gospel cannot be told or fully appreciated without knowing just how unworthy we really are.
In John chapter 18 we see two characters that defines evil and our very own hearts. In Judas we see betrayal for greed and the lust for power and money. For three and a half years he played the role but never once believed. He became the perfect candidate for Satan to enter in. Annas, the High Priest in power, is also revealed in this chapter to be the real instrumental power behind a now godless priesthood. Annas, too, is now most likely to be controlled by Satan along with Judas. The Dark Trinity, Judas, Annas and Satan are conspiring to take down Jesus this night. It truly is a dark night. And, yet Jesus died for all the world that whosoever believes in Him might have eternal life.
