THE UPPER ROOM DISCOURSE

The Lord’s Supper or the Last Supper is significant in so many levels. It’s a room of betrayal with Satan entering Judas. A fitting detail to the spiritual warfare that Jesus will mark with a victory by removing the sting of death. Just moments before, Jesus was washing the feet of Judas.

The four cups have so much meaning to the night and the future hope for Israel, the Kingdom and salvation to all the world. The return of Jesus Christ becomes a major theme now highlighted by the simple word, “until”. Jesus will no more drink of this cup until the kingdom comes. That must be a literal Kingdom. This must be part of our hope.

As Jesus shares His last hours with His closest disciples, He prepares them by introducing the New Covenant doctrine – Love one another. Jesus did love them to the end.
