THE HIGH PRIESTLY PRAYER
3471 years ago, or so, was the first time a High Priest entered the Holy of Holies. The Tabernacle was God’s way to reveal a portion of His Son’s glory and majesty to a people that have just been enslaved for 430 years. The Hebrews needed to become a nation. They would learn ten new commandments to guide them to a new civilization. At the center was a new way of worship and a way to come to God by a way of a blood sacrifice. Through the Tabernacle and the two Temples, this was the way Israel would need to come to God. This was the Old Testament.
In one night, this all would change. John chapter 17 describes the High Priestly Prayer. The disciples listen in to the real Lord’s Prayer as Jesus the Son prays to His Father. It is a farewell prayer as Jesus prays for Himself, His disciples and all that will choose to believe. This hour, Jesus is the High Priest for all the world. This is the Great Intercessory Prayer.
In a few hours Jesus would enter the Holy of Holies to be that ultimate Lamb of Sacrifice – the perfect sacrifice.
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Hebrews 9:12
