There is always so much going on behind the ordinary story of the woman at the well. It is much more than an act of mercy for Jesus to go far out of His way just to be kind to a woman in the desert. It is that but these people were also outcast and rejected from Jewish prosperities and social norms. Jesus comes to bring unity to the old Kingdom of Israel that had suffered civil war and further divisions. For the world to receive the gospel it first needed to undergo healing. Jesus reveals to the Samaritans that He is the Messiah they have been waiting for. With a kind rebuke the true form of worship is introduced. And with that a two-day revival ensues. Oh, how we need revival today.
