THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY
We are familiar with Palm Sunday as the beginning of Holy Week. It commemorates the beginning of a seven-day period of the last week before Jesus dies for the world. Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the core of our faith.
For Israel the palm leaves were waved in the anticipation of Jesus riding into Jerusalem as the promised King. Jesus came riding on a colt as prophesied. The Kingdom would be postponed. Jesus riding as conqueror will come another day. Jesus comes lowly as the sacrificial Lamb. That Sunday, the 10 of Nissan was when Israel was to find and separate their spotless lamb. Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
The good news for Israel is that one day the Nation will have a second chance. The second coming highlights this grand event where Israel will finally come to know their Messiah and say Hosannah in the highest, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. The good news for us is that our God is a promise keeper and a God of mercy.
