ANOTHER COMFORTER

Imagine hearing those words for the very first time. Not just for the disciples but at any time in all of history. Another Comforter first points to Jesus, still with them there right in the room. He, at that moment was the God of all comfort for them in the upper room. But, to think of a Comforter to come would have been difficult to understand for these already troubled men. Jesus needs to introduce the coming Holy Spirit. Words would not suffice to capture the person of the Trinity. Nevertheless, Jesus loved them enough to not leave them without hope.

Hope is all about a secured future seen through faith. Jesus, also that evening reveals a time when He will return. Jesus explains that the Father has a place for them in the Kingdom of Heaven. That too would have been difficult to fully understand.

All believers share in abiding in Christ and a Comforter that will never leave us and a place to call home. Now, that too is exciting.

“In my Father’s house are many mansions.”

“I go to prepare a place for you”

“I will receive you unto myself.”

This is a great picture of a wedding and a time of celebration. We are the precious bride. Let’s rejoice and be comforted.
