TIMELINE IN THE BOOK OF JOHN – THE LAST WEEK (JOHN 11 – JOHN 17)
Passion week begins Sunday when Jesus rides into Jerusalem as the humble servant and concludes the Sunday of His triumphal resurrection. Palm Sunday was predicted by the prophet Daniel and is termed as the 69th week. The 70th week is yet to be fulfilled. That last 70th week is reserved for End Times. Jesus takes considerable time to speak directly to His disciples to prepare them for His death.

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

John 12:12-15; Matt 21:2-7; Mark 11:2-7; Luke 19:33-35 Jesus rides into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and is

10th of Nissan.
Matt 21:12 Jesus clears the temple in preparation for the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Matth 21:18-22; Matt 11:20-26; Mark 11:12-14 Jesus curses the Fig Tree as a visual illustration of the current
depravity of the Nation of Israel. Monday (11th of Nissan)
Matt 21;12-17; Mark 11:15-19; Luke 19:45-48 Jesus clears out the temple moneychangers. Jesus prophecies about
the future destruction of the temple in 70 A.D. Jesus teaches the First and second commandment
of the New Way and the New Covenant.
John 12:20 Certain Greeks come to worship at the feast and request to see Jesus. Jesus receives Gentile
representation.
Matt 23:1-39; Matt 23:38-39 Jesus pronounces 8 woes to the scribes and Pharisees. Calls them hypocrites,
serpents, vipers and pronounces the House of Israel as desolate. Jesus proclaims His second
coming. Tuesday, 12th of Nissan.
Matt 24:1-51 Jesus declares the signs of the end of the Age. (Olivet Discourse)
Matt 25:1-13; Matt 25:14-30; Matt 25:31-46 Jesus teaches on the Second Coming through the parable of the Ten
Virgins, parable of the talents and the parable of the sheep and goats.
John 13:1-17; Mark 14:3 The disciples gather in the Upper Room of Simon the leper. Jesus teaches the act of
service by washing the disciple’s feet. Jesus is anointed in preparation for His burial.
Bethany/Jerusalem – Wednesday, 13th of Nissan.
John 13:18-30; Matt 26:26-29; Mark 14;22-25: Luke 22:14-20 Jesus and the disciples eat the Last Supper meal in
the upper room in Jerusalem. Judas betrays Jesus. Jesus institutes the Lord’s Supper and the New
Testament of Jesus Christ with His
disciples. After the third cup Jesus speaks the words, “I shall no more drink of the fruit of the vine,
until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” It is here that affirms that this
was the last time Jesus would observe the Passover until the kingdom is established. The reference
points to a future time when Jesus will return to bring in the Kingdom. The fourth cup is “the cup of
Restoration.” Jesus does not drink from this cup. This meal was before the Passover Feast.
Matt 26:30-32; Mark 14:26 After the meal the small group gathered at the Garden of Gethsemane in the Mount of
Olives to sing a hymn. Jesus explains that he will rise again. Throughout the evening Jesus gives His
Final Discourse and Farewell Prayer.
John 13:24 Jesus teaches His new commandment, “That ye love one another: as I have loved you, that ye also
love one another.”
John 14:1-31 Jesus teaches comfort in many mansions. He will return for them. The Comforter, which is the Holy
Spirit is introduced to come and dwell in believers. Jesus is the first Comforter. The Holy Spirit is
another Comforter.
John 15:1-17 Jesus teaches that He is the true vine. Jesus explains, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a
man lay down his life for his friends.” Believers are to be fruitful and rejoice even through worldly
opposition that will follow.
John 15:18-16:33 Jesus continues to teach about the Father and emphasises the Spirit of truth to bring full joy and
good cheer.
John 17:1-26 The Priestly Prayer of Jesus – “and this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God”;
“That the world may know”. This is the final Farewell Prayer. His disciples are to be encouraged to
follow the New Teachings of Jesus.
